High Speed Doors for Temperature Control
0 min read
Industrial temperature-controlled environments are critical across sectors such as food production, pharmaceuticals, logistics, and warehousing. Whether operating a chilled distribution centre or a deep-freeze storage facility, choosing the correct high-speed door system plays a vital role in maintaining temperature integrity, improving efficiency, and reducing energy costs. Tekta’s Rapidor Chill and Rapidor Freeze doors are specifically engineered to meet the different demands of industrial chiller and freezer applications.
An industrial chiller environment typically operates between 0°C and 8°C and is designed to preserve products while slowing bacterial growth and maintaining freshness. Common examples include food production facilities, pharmaceutical storage areas, and chilled logistics centres. In these environments, doors must open and close rapidly to minimise temperature loss while supporting constant traffic flow from forklifts and personnel. They also need to provide reliable insulation, low maintenance operation, and effective sealing to prevent condensation and energy waste.
Tekta’s Rapidor Chill has been developed specifically for these high-use chilled environments. The door features opening speeds of up to 2.5m/s, helping maintain workflow efficiency while reducing unnecessary heat transfer. Its 7mm insulated curtain provides strong thermal performance, while the zipper-edge self-repairing curtain system automatically resets after impact, reducing downtime and maintenance costs. Quiet operation, multiple activation options, and integrated safety systems such as light curtains and traffic lights make it particularly well suited for busy industrial settings.
Industrial freezer environments, by comparison, operate at far lower temperatures often between -18°C and -25°C or below. These spaces are commonly used for frozen food storage, blast chilling, pharmaceutical products, and temperature-sensitive materials that require long-term preservation. Freezer door systems face significantly greater challenges due to extreme temperature differences between areas, which can lead to condensation, ice build-up, frost formation, and energy loss if not properly controlled.
To meet these demanding conditions, freezer doors require enhanced insulation, integrated heating systems, and superior environmental separation. Tekta’s Rapidor Freeze has been engineered specifically for sub-zero applications. Its dual-curtain design incorporates a 250mm heated airlock between the curtains, creating an insulated buffer zone that helps prevent ice formation while maintaining operational efficiency at temperatures as low as -25°C. A 2.35kW warm air blower maintains a positive temperature within the airlock, reducing frosting and ensuring smooth operation.
Like the Rapidor Chill, the Rapidor Freeze also incorporates Tekta’s self-repairing zipper-edge technology to minimise repair costs following accidental impacts. The high-speed operation of 1.8m/s reduces exposure time between environments, helping preserve frozen conditions and lower energy consumption. For facilities with extreme humidity or heavy traffic, the Rapidor Freeze AIR model includes an integral air curtain system for even greater environmental separation.
Both door systems demonstrate how specialised high-speed doors are essential in maintaining operational efficiency, protecting product quality, and reducing energy consumption in industrial chilled and frozen environments.
