Charity Spotlight #5: Diabetes UK
0 min read
We’re supporting Diabetes UK because one of our team members, Art, was recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and we want to raise as much money as we can to support the amazing work that Diabetes UK do…
This is Art’s story:
Having felt quite unwell since November 2020, constantly thirsty, falling asleep regardless of being tired, losing 4 stone in weight without trying, Arthur went for a check-up.
He had an urgent blood test and had to rush to QA hospital on the verge of falling into a diabetic coma. That day in January 2021 he was diagnosed with TD1 at the age of 30.
Since then it has been a whirlwind of finger pricks, injections, hypo treatments and hospital visits. He has had a constant battle with trying to keep his blood sugars in check and having to overhaul his entire lifestyle. As well as working a busy job and raising a young family. He has done it all with a smile on his face and never lets this autoimmune disease get him down (as told by Lauren Barnes – Tekta Service Coordinator & Art’s Wife).
Art and the team at Tekta are passionate about Diabetes UK and the work they do, which is why we are raising money as a team to donate to this fabulous cause and their continued work into research for how we can manage this disease better for those affected.
On Friday 17th December we walked 10 miles across 12 bridges in London – you can still donate by visiting our JustGiving page!
