Door specification is complex. Multiple requirements, hundreds of decisions and dependencies between door performance, operation and ironmongery can make producing a comprehensive door schedule challenging. Modus has been developed to bring structure, clarity and confidence to that process.

We’re pleased to announce the launch of Modus, the specification portal for the complete door process.

Modus gives architects, specifiers and consultants a structured route from a basic door schedule through to a comprehensive, compliant specification. Rather than approaching each element in isolation, the portal connects door specification and ironmongery within one defined process.

A structured approach to door specification

At the heart of Modus is the D.O.O.R Method: Definition, Operation, Optimisation and Realisation. These four connected stages guide users systematically through the specification of each door, from defining its function and compliance requirements to selecting ironmongery and completing the detailed door design.

The process starts in Revit, where doors are positioned and a basic door schedule is created. That information can then be transferred into Modus, where the schedule is developed and validated. The aim is not to replace Revit, but to give each platform a clear role: Revit anchors the door; Modus specifies it.

Clear choices. Comprehensive specifications

Modus is designed around defined selections rather than an open-ended specification process. Door function, compliance and operation are considered together, helping users work systematically through the information required for every door. Where selections are incompatible, the portal can flag conflicts rather than allowing them to progress unnoticed.

Grouping functionality also allows multiple doors with the same requirements to be specified together, reducing the need to work through every door individually. Ironmongery groups can then be developed using structured hardware types and product information, keeping door and hardware specifications connected.

And Modus is only getting started. Future development includes an expanded product selector and library, specification guidance, live Revit synchronisation and further resources to support the specification process.

Four stages. One complete specification.

Modus provides a clearer, more structured way to navigate the complete door process – helping project teams develop comprehensive specifications and specify with confidence.
