The D.O.O.R Method: A Structured Door Specification Process

Modus is built around Tekta’s D.O.O.R Method, a four-stage process created to guide project teams systematically through the specification of each door.

D.O.O.R stands for Definition, Operation, Optimisation and Realisation.

By the end of the process, the door’s function, compliance, operation, ironmongery and detailed design requirements are brought together in one complete specification.

1. Definition: Specify Door Function and Compliance

This stage defines the function of the door and establishes the relevant compliance requirements.

2. Operation: Specify Door Operation and Allocate Ironmongery Sets

This stage defines how the door needs to operate and allocates the appropriate ironmongery sets.

3. Optimisation: Define Detailed Ironmongery Listing

This stage develops the allocated ironmongery sets into the detailed information required for the specification.

4. Realisation: Finalise Remaining Door Design Details

This stage completes the remaining door design requirements and finalises the information needed for the finished specification.

No. Using Modus does not commit you to requesting a quotation from or working with Tekta. Once your door schedule and specification are complete, you can request a quote from Tekta or take the schedule to a door supplier of your choice.

Yes. Modus checks specification choices as a door schedule is developed and prevents non-compliant door types from being specified. For example, it will not allow a fire escape door to be specified with a non-escape lock or with a thumbturn on the inside of an escape door.

Does Modus support BIM and Revit?

Yes. BIM and Revit families are available through Modus to support architects and specifiers working within BIM-based design and specification workflows.

Can I import or sync a door schedule from Revit into Modus?

Yes. Modus includes an import and sync tool that allows door schedule information from Revit to be brought into the portal. This enables basic Revit door schedule information to be developed into a more detailed door and ironmongery specification within Modus.

Can multiple people work on the same Modus door schedule?

Yes. Modus supports multi-user access, allowing relevant project stakeholders to work from the same door schedule and maintain consistent project information as the specification develops.
