External high-speed doors are fast-opening industrial doors designed for frequently used openings between internal and external areas. Built to perform in exposed conditions, they help reduce weather ingress, air exchange and energy loss while supporting security plus efficient vehicle and pedestrian movement.
Tekta provides external high-speed door solutions for loading bays, temperature controlled logistics facilities, food and beverage sites, advanced manufacturing and other high-traffic industrial environments. Our specialists help identify suitable solutions based on factors such as opening dimensions, traffic frequency, site exposure, thermal performance, security requirements and long-term reliability.

Featured External High-Speed Door Project
Client: Warner Brothers
Project Value: £43,000
Project Location: Hertfordshire
Products: Rapidor Dupli
Project Brief:
Warner Bros. Studios required a high-performance external door package for its refurbished studio facility, replacing an existing system after losing confidence in the previous supplier.
The new solution needed to support frequent access while maintaining effective environmental separation during operation and provide enhanced security when the openings were not in use.
Solution:
Working closely with PRS Contracts, Tekta supplied and installed:
- 2 Rapidor Dupli external high-speed doors
Each system combines a high-speed, self-repairing fabric door with an insulated steel roller shutter, providing efficient access, temperature and hygiene control during operation, alongside enhanced security when closed.
By addressing the shortcomings of the previous system and working collaboratively with PRS Contracts, Tekta delivered a reliable external high-speed door package that restored confidence in the doorway solution.
High-Speed Doors for Internal Applications
For openings within a building, Tekta also manufactures, supplies and installs internal high-speed doors designed to support frequent traffic alongside requirements such as hygiene, temperature control, airflow, pressure separation and impact resilience.

What factors should be considered when selecting an external high-speed door?
The most appropriate external high-speed door should be selected against the opening dimensions, traffic profile, site exposure and required performance. Key considerations include wind resistance, opening speed, frequency of use, thermal performance, weather protection, security, impact risk and the safety or activation systems required.
Can external high-speed doors help reduce heat loss and energy use?
Yes. By opening and closing quickly, external high-speed doors reduce the amount of time an opening remains exposed, helping to limit uncontrolled air exchange and heat loss. Where greater thermal separation is required, insulated high-speed door systems can provide additional protection when closed.
Tekta’s Rapidor Spiral combines high-speed operation with insulated aluminium panels, providing enhanced thermal performance for external openings where both frequent access and temperature control are important.
What type of external high-speed door is suitable for large openings?
The most suitable system for a large external opening depends on its dimensions, wind exposure, traffic frequency and required operating performance. Folding high-speed doors, like Tekta’s Rapidor Fold, are commonly suited to larger exposed openings where durability and resistance to wind loading are important.
Are self-repairing external high-speed doors available?
Yes. Some fabric high-speed doors use self-repairing curtain systems designed to minimise damage, maintenance and downtime following accidental impact.
Tekta’s Rapidor Dupli features a zipper-edge curtain that can disengage from the guides if struck and automatically reinsert during a subsequent operating cycle, allowing the door to return to normal operation without requiring immediate manual repair.
Which external high-speed door is suitable for very high traffic levels?
External openings with particularly high traffic levels require a door capable of opening quickly and operating reliably through frequent cycles. Tekta’s Rapidor Sprint uses a bi-parting design to provide rapid access and is designed for high-use internal and external openings.
What information does Tekta need to recommend an external high-speed door?
Tekta will typically need the opening dimensions, site location and exposure, expected traffic frequency and the type of traffic using the doorway. Details of any wind resistance, thermal performance, weather protection, security, impact-resistance or control requirements will also help the team identify an appropriate solution. Drawings, photographs and information about the surrounding structure or existing systems may also be useful.
Do external high-speed doors require planned servicing?
Yes. Planned servicing helps maintain safe, reliable operation and reduces the likelihood of unexpected downtime. The appropriate maintenance schedule will depend on the door model, frequency of use, level of weather exposure, operating environment and importance of the opening to the wider operation.
The Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) provides further guidance on the maintenance responsibilities for industrial doors and shutters.
