Questions to Ask Your Door Servicing Provider to Ensure Compliance and Expertise

Industrial doors play a critical role in the safety, security and efficiency of your facility. Whether you manage a warehouse, manufacturing plant or commercial site, choosing a qualified door-servicing provider is essential. One UK-based specialist is Tekta, but regardless of provider, you’ll want to ask the right questions. Here are the key ones to ensure they are compliant, competent and capable of servicing industrial doors to the right standard.

1. Are your technicians trained and certified for industrial door servicing?
Industrial doors involve mechanical, electrical and safety-critical components. Ask whether the provider (for example, Tekta, which specialises in industrial and high-speed doors) maintains manufacturer-specific training, health & safety credentials and periodic refreshers.

2. What industry standards and safety regulations do you follow?
A reputable provider will reference relevant regulations (for example fire-safety requirements, door-safety directives, etc). Tekta state their accreditations and membership of safety schemes such as CHAS and SafeContractor.

3. Do you offer risk‐assessments and safety inspections as part of your service?
Proper servicing isn’t just about fixing faults, it’s about identifying hazards before they become incidents. A good provider will check structural integrity, safety sensors, emergency-stop functions, control-systems and other critical features.

4. Can you provide evidence of insurance and liability coverage?
Your provider should hold appropriate public liability and professional indemnity insurance. Ask for certificates.

5. Do you maintain service logs and provide detailed reports?
Transparent documentation is crucial for audits, internal compliance and for tracking recurring issues. Ask what information the provider’s reports include, whether digital logs are kept and how they track door-history and follow up maintenance.

6. What is your response time for emergency repairs?
Industrial doors often support high-volume operations and downtime can be costly. Understand the provider’s call-out times, availability, spare-parts access, and how quickly they can mobilise.

7. Are you familiar with the specific brands and door types at our facility?
From high-speed doors to fire shutters, each system has unique requirements. Tekta’s product range covers high-speed, sliding, hinged and insulated doors across many sectors including food, pharma and logistics. A provider should be able to reference your equipment confidently and give examples of similar work.

By asking these questions and using a reference provider, such as Tekta as a benchmark, for expertise and compliance standards you’ll be much better placed to choose a servicing partner who not only repairs equipment, but supports your wider compliance, safety and operational goals.
