Eliminating Water Ingress (through external doorways).
Hello there, Blake here from Tekta, and today we’re tackling a common issue for many industrial buildings — Water ingress through external doors. Water leaking through into an industrial building can create serious health and safety risks, not to mention the potential for product damage.
So, what can you do? Let’s walk through some solutions:
Firstly, look at the gradient of the floor directly outside the doorway. Ideally, the floor should be level or sloping slightly away from the door. This allows rainwater to flow away from the building rather than collecting against the door and seeping into the building.
Secondly, consider the type of door you’re using and the sealing options available to you. Some doors, like roller shutters, don’t always come with a bottom seal. Without a proper seal, water will find its way into the building much more easily. To address this, be sure to order or specify a bottom rubber seal to close off any gaps. This simple addition can prevent water ingress while keeping your doorway better protected from the elements.
If you’ve optimized the floor slope and added a bottom seal but still face issues, it’s time to consider an external solution. The ProSafe AquaShield from Tekta is a durable, commercial-grade floor seal designed to mount just outside the doorway. The AquaShield is robust enough to handle heavy mechanical traffic, including forklifts and other MHEs, while effectively preventing water from seeping into your building.
To recap:
• First, make sure the floor outside slopes away from the door.
• Second, order or specify a bottom seal on your door.
• And lastly, consider a floor-mounted Prosafe AquaShield weather seal if you need that extra level of protection.
