Tekta’s First Charity Challenge: Walking the Distance Together
At Tekta, teamwork doesn’t stop when the working day ends. This February, our team came together to take on our first charity challenge of the year, walking the distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats, all in support of our charity partner, Rowans Hospice.
For those who know the route, the journey from the southernmost tip of England to the northernmost point of Scotland spans an impressive 874 miles. Our challenge was simple: collectively walk that distance throughout the month of February.
Of course, February isn’t exactly known for perfect walking weather. Our team braved wind, rain and freezing temperatures, getting outside before work, during lunch breaks and after long days to log their miles. Whether it was quick lunchtime laps, weekend hikes or evening walks with family, every step contributed to the shared goal.
By the end of the month, the Tekta team had not only reached the target, we surpassed it, walking a total of 893.26 miles together. It was an incredible effort across the business and a fantastic example of what can happen when everyone pulls in the same direction.
Some team members went above and beyond. One member of the Tekta team alone managed an incredible 112 miles in February, showing real determination and commitment to the challenge.
But the real impact of the challenge wasn’t just the miles walked, it was the support we were able to provide to Rowans Hospice. Through the efforts of the team, we raised £450 for the charity.
That amount may seem modest on paper, but the impact is significant. £450 covers the cost of one entire shift for the Hospice at Home team, who provide vital care to patients in their own homes while also supporting families and carers during incredibly difficult times. Knowing that our challenge will help make that support possible made every step worthwhile.
Taking on the Land’s End to John O’Groats challenge also reminded us of the strength of the Tekta team. Even though many of us were walking individually in different places, we were all moving toward the same goal, supporting an organisation that does such important work in our community.
This was the first of many charity challenges planned for the year, and it set the tone perfectly: teamwork, determination and a shared commitment to making a difference.
From everyone at Tekta, a huge thank you to the team members who got involved and helped turn every mile into meaningful support for Rowans Hospice.
