Project Brief

Sterigenics appointed Tekta to undertake the replacement of 12 existing high-speed doors at its specialist processing facility, upgrading the existing systems with 12 ATEX-approved Rapidor Impact high-speed doors. Valued at £155,000, the project required a carefully specified solution capable of meeting the stringent safety, performance and compliance requirements associated with a highly controlled processing environment. With potentially explosive atmospheres and sensitive materials present within the facility, every element of the door package needed to provide dependable operation while satisfying the relevant requirements for use within hazardous areas.

The ATEX-approved Rapidor Impact doors were selected to provide fast, reliable access while supporting the safe separation of critical operational areas. Their high-speed operation helps reduce the amount of time openings remain exposed, supporting environmental control and the efficient movement of personnel, equipment and materials throughout the facility. The doors also provide the durability required for frequent daily operation, while their ATEX-approved specification ensures they are suitable for installation in designated hazardous environments where safety and regulatory compliance are essential.

Replacing existing doors within an operational specialist facility required careful planning and coordination to minimise disruption and maintain continuity throughout the programme. Tekta worked closely with the wider project team to manage the removal and replacement process safely and efficiently, ensuring each new door was installed in accordance with the required specifications and site procedures. The completed £155,000 package provides Sterigenics with a modern, compliant and reliable high-speed access solution, enhancing operational performance while supporting the stringent safety standards required across its specialist processing environment.

Our Solution

Tekta managed the complete removal of the existing high-speed doors and the installation of 12 ATEX-approved Rapidor Impact doors, providing Sterigenics with a specialist access solution designed specifically for use within hazardous locations. Working within a sensitive operational environment required careful planning at every stage, from the controlled removal of the existing systems through to the installation, testing and commissioning of the replacement doors. Tekta coordinated the works to ensure safety remained the highest priority while maintaining progress against a demanding five-day installation programme.

ATEX certification was a critical requirement for the new door systems, ensuring they were suitable for areas where potentially explosive atmospheres and hazardous materials may be present. The Rapidor Impact doors combine this specialist compliance with fast, dependable operation, supporting the efficient movement of personnel, materials and equipment between operational areas. Their rapid opening and closing cycles also help minimise the time openings remain exposed, supporting environmental separation while providing the durability and reliability required for frequent daily use within a demanding processing facility.

Working closely with the Sterigenics team, Tekta carefully sequenced the replacement programme to minimise disruption to ongoing operations and ensure each area could be completed safely and efficiently. Despite the specialist nature of the installation and the stringent requirements of the working environment, Tekta successfully removed and replaced all 12 high-speed doors in just five working days. The project was delivered safely, on schedule and to a high standard, providing Sterigenics with a compliant, robust and reliable long-term solution while demonstrating Tekta’s capability to deliver complex specialist door replacements within operational hazardous environments.
