Industrial Door Solutions for Ministry of Defence

Project Brief

Tekta was appointed to deliver a comprehensive industrial door package for a major MOD infrastructure programme in Oxfordshire, working alongside Vinci as part of a significant four-year development.

With a contract value of approximately £1.53 million, the project represents one of Tekta’s larger-scale specialist door packages and required the supply and installation of 121 industrial and fire-rated door systems across the development. Delivered through a phased programme, the works demanded careful planning, coordination and consistency to ensure each installation aligned with the wider construction schedule and the operational requirements of the facility.

Given the nature of the development, security, reliability and regulatory compliance were fundamental considerations throughout the project. The specified door systems needed to withstand frequent use within a demanding operational environment while providing a long service life and dependable performance.

The package incorporated three specialist door types, with each selected to fulfil a specific requirement across the facility. These included 57 Rapidor Fold high-speed doors, 57 Rollashield Steelroll roller shutters and seven Pyrodor Fireroll fire shutters, creating a comprehensive access, security and fire protection solution for the development.

Working closely with Vinci throughout the four-year programme, Tekta supplied and installed a total of 121 specialist door systems, coordinating each phase of the works with the wider construction programme.

For the facility’s large and frequently used vehicle openings, Tekta installed 57 Rapidor Fold high-speed doors. Designed for demanding industrial applications, the folding doors provide rapid and reliable operation across larger openings, helping to maintain efficient vehicle movements while minimising the amount of time openings remain exposed. Their robust construction makes them particularly suited to high-use environments where durability and consistent performance are essential.

A further 57 Rollashield Steelroll roller shutters were installed to provide secure and dependable access throughout the development. Their robust steel construction delivers a strong physical barrier when closed, providing the security required across key areas of the facility while offering reliable day-to-day operation.

To meet the project’s fire safety requirements, Tekta also supplied and installed seven Pyrodor Fireroll fire shutters. These systems provide certified fire compartmentation at designated openings, helping to restrict the spread of fire between areas and supporting the wider passive fire protection strategy of the development.

Together, the three systems created a coordinated industrial door package balancing rapid access, physical security, fire protection and long-term durability. Careful planning across the phased four-year installation programme allowed Tekta to work effectively alongside Vinci and other contractors while maintaining consistency across a large number of individual installations.

The scale and duration of the project demonstrate Tekta’s capability to manage complex, high-value industrial door packages from specification and coordination through to installation. The completed solution provides the MOD development with robust, reliable and compliant access systems designed to meet the demanding security, safety and operational requirements of a busy defence facility over the long term.
