Industrial Door Solutions for Envision Energy

Project Brief

Tekta was appointed to supply and install a specialist door package for Envision Energy’s new gigafactory at the International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP) in Sunderland. Working alongside Asgard Hi-Tech Solutions, Tekta’s scope formed part of the specialist cleanroom package for Phase 1 of this major advanced manufacturing development.

Valued at approximately £38,000, the package included the supply and installation of six Pyrodor Flex fire curtains and five Traffidor Pass hinged doors, specified to meet the demanding fire safety, access and operational requirements of a high-specification battery manufacturing environment.

The new gigafactory represents a significant investment in the UK’s growing electric vehicle and battery manufacturing sector. Once complete, the state-of-the-art facility will initially produce approximately 9–11GWh of lithium-ion battery cells annually, with future expansion expected to increase capacity to 35–38GWh – enough to support the production of batteries for more than 100,000 electric vehicles each year.

With manufacturing processes taking place within carefully controlled environments, the project required specialist door systems capable of integrating effectively with the cleanroom construction while maintaining stringent standards of safety, performance and reliability.

Working closely with Asgard Hi-Tech Solutions and Wates Group, Tekta delivered a coordinated specialist door package designed around the demanding requirements of the cleanroom environment.

Six Pyrodor Flex fire curtains were installed to provide essential fire compartmentation across key areas of the facility. Designed to deploy automatically when required, the systems provide an effective fire-resistant barrier while remaining discreetly integrated into the building when not in use. Their compact and flexible design made them particularly suited to the cleanroom environment, where fire separation needed to be achieved without compromising access or the functionality of the manufacturing space.

Alongside the fire curtains, Tekta supplied and installed five Traffidor Pass hinged doors, providing robust and secure personnel access throughout the facility. Designed for demanding industrial applications, the doors offer the durability and reliability required for regular use while integrating effectively with the wider cleanroom package.

Careful coordination with Asgard Hi-Tech Solutions, Wates Group and other specialist trades ensured that the installation aligned with the wider cleanroom construction programme. Particular attention was given to interfaces between the door systems, surrounding structures and specialist cleanroom elements, helping to ensure an efficient and coordinated installation.

The completed package combines effective fire compartmentation with durable, reliable access, supporting the safety and day-to-day operation of this advanced battery manufacturing facility. The project further demonstrates Tekta’s capability in delivering specialist door solutions for cleanrooms, advanced manufacturing facilities and other technically demanding industrial environments.
