Project Brief
Tekta was specified to supply and install the industrial door package for bp’s new Technology Centre in Pangbourne, working alongside Austin Group as part of the delivery team. Valued at approximately £34,000, Tekta’s package formed part of bp’s wider £50 million investment in a state-of-the-art electric vehicle battery testing centre and analytical laboratory.
The new facility represents a significant investment in the research, testing and development capabilities required to support rapidly evolving technologies. Designed to advance bp’s work in battery technology, engineering and fluid technologies, the centre supports research into emerging applications including electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and data centres.
As a specialist element of the building envelope and access strategy, Tekta was responsible for supplying and installing two Rapidor Spiral high-speed industrial doors. The doors were specified to provide the combination of rapid access, thermal performance, durability and security required within a technically demanding research and development environment.
Our Solution
Tekta supplied and installed two Rapidor Spiral high-speed industrial doors, selected to meet the operational requirements of high-use internal and external openings within the new facility.
The Rapidor Spiral system combines high-speed operation with the strength and thermal performance of a sectional industrial door. Constructed from insulated aluminium panels operating within a robust galvanised steel frame, the system creates a secure and thermally efficient closure while allowing openings to be accessed quickly and efficiently.
With opening speeds of up to 2m/s, the doors significantly reduce the amount of time an opening remains exposed compared with conventional industrial door systems. This makes them particularly well suited to busy environments where maintaining internal conditions, controlling energy loss and enabling efficient movement between areas are important operational considerations.
The insulated aluminium construction also provides an effective barrier between internal and external environments, while the rigid door curtain delivers the security and durability required for frequent daily operation. Together, these characteristics made the Rapidor Spiral an appropriate solution for a modern technology facility where performance, reliability and efficiency were key priorities.
